Fresh off a 2-1 win over first-place Missouri State the Racers host Illinois State on Sunday afternoon
Following their big win over top-of-the-table Missouri State, Murray State women's soccer returns to Cutchin Field for a Sunday matchup with Illinois State at 1 p.m. The Racers currently hold a four-game unbeaten streak with wins over Indiana State and Missouri State in the span.Â
The last two matches for MSU has been all about the senior duo of Saraya Young and Lauren Payne. The pair have linked up in consecutive games with the opening goal against UIC coming from Payne on an assist from Young and the game-winner against Missouri State coming from the same combination. Payne has taken over top goal scorer honors for MSU with three on the year while Young leads the Racers playmaking efforts, dishing out four assists on the year.Â
Freshmen Mary Hardy, Sydney Etter, Megan Wilson, and Tori Schrimpf have played key roles for Murray State in conference play as Hardy is the reigning Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week while Etter provided a goal against Indiana State and Schrimpf played in all 90 minutes of the last two matches while patrolling the midfield. Wilson has proven to be lethal in her long passing ability from the center back position as she set up the game-winning goal against Missouri State on a long ball to Young who passed to Payne for the goal.Â
Jenna Villacres grabbed eight saves against Missouri State with some vital saves late in the game versus the Bears. The senior goalkeeper now has 44 saves on the year and ranks sixth in the conference.Â
