Baseball Hosts Bellarmine, Going for Best Start in Program History
3/1/2022 8:09:00 PM | Baseball
Murray State has started 7-0 just three times in the History of its Baseball Program
Murray State (7-0) baseball is set to host in-state foe, Bellarmine, on Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers have started 7-0 for just the third time in program history and for the first time since 1975. A win tomorrow would push the Racers to the best start in MSU history.
The Murray State offense ranks near the top of the nation in several offensive categories including the top 10 nationally in team on-base percentage and runs per game. In the bullpen, MSU has six arms that sport lower than a 2.10 ERA. The Racers have been racing around the base paths as they rank fourth nationally with 25 stolen bases in just seven games.
Scouting Report
Bellarmine enters the contest at 1-8 after dropping a tight game with Austin Peay 14-13 on Tuesday (March 1). The Knights have played extremely close with national powerhouse Virginia and with SEC foe Kentucky so far this season.
The Knights are led offensively by sophomore Davis Crane with a .357 batting average to go along with two doubles and a home run. Freshman Casey Sorg is the projected starting pitcher for Bellarmine. Sorg has 4.2 innings pitched on the year with an impressive 1.93 ERA and eight strikeouts.
The matchup will be the third between the schools with MSU winning the two previous meetings. Coverage of the game can be found on ESPN+ and live stats can be found at GoRacers.com.
