The Series
The Murray State softball team hosts Southeast Missouri in a pivotal OVC three-game series for both teams, Saturday and Sunday at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
All-Time Series At A Glance
The Racers lead Southeast Missouri in the all-time series 16-13 and 9-4 in games played in Murray State. While MSU leads the all-time series, the Redhawks have owned the series as of late, winning four of the last five and six of the last 10.
Scouting The Redhawks
The Redhawks are 21-17 overall this season and 10-5 in OVC play. The Redhawks fell from second place in the league standings last week when they dropped two of three games to Austin Peay in Clarksville.
Offensively, SEMO is currently batting .289 on the season, while their opponents are hitting .229. In the circle, the Redhawks have a staff ERA of 3.72, while their opponents have limited them to an ERA of 4.64. In addition, Southeast Missouri pitchers this season are doling out 6.31 strikeouts per 7 innings and have a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.2:1.
Individually, Rachel Rook leads the way for the Redhawks in the circle with an ERA of 3.01, a 12-7 record, two shutouts, 144 strikeouts and 40 walks. At the plate, Kaylee Anderson leads SEMO with a team-high batting average of .430 to go along with team-highs of 44 runs, 31 RBIs and 10 home runs.
A Series Win Would...
A series win would snap at least a four-game skid to SEMO and would further strengthen Murray State's hold on the OVC lead with only two weeks left in the season.
A Racer First
For the first time in the history of the Murray State softball program, the Racers saw a game end in a tie Wednesday. The Racers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the contest, only to have the Salukis storm back and force extra innings. After the game was still tied after the eighth, due to inclement weather, the game ended at 6-6. Wednesday's draw put an end to a 653-game streak without a tie for Murray State.
A Double Triple
Logan Braundmeier and Sierra Gilmore each tallied three hits in Wednesday's game against Southern Illinois. Both players also scored twice in the game, while Gilmore also added a double, a home run, a stolen base and an RBI. Keeping with the theme, Gracie Osbron drew three walks in the game, while also going 2-for-2.
Do Not Walk This Way
Hannah James and Jenna Veber are both currently ranked in the top 15 nationally in walks per seven innings category. Veber is currently 13th with 0.83 free passes for every seven innings of play, while James is seventh at 0.76. In addition, James also rans fourth amongst all Division I pitchers in strikeout-to-walk ratio, fanning 12.07 batters for every one walk issued.
