MVC Tip-Off Event Previews 2023-24 Season, Young Named Preseason First Team

Katelyn Young was named Preseason All-MVC First Team at MVC Tip-Off event in Quad Cities.
The Murray State Women's Basketball was part of the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball tip-off day at the Vibrant Arena in Moline, where Katelyn Young was named Preseason All-MVC First Team.

Going into the Racers' second season in The Valley, Coach Rechelle Turner brought Young and Hannah McKay to the event. The MVC Tip-off event brings together the 12 league teams for a day of media access, recordings and community service. The Racers will be part of several sessions with the media outlets that cover the MVC and will participate in the elementary school reading in the afternoon.

Katelyn Young named Preseason All-MVC First Team
The league announced the inclusion of senior center Katelyn Young as part of the Preseason All-MVC First Team. In her first season in the MVC, Young led the league in points per game by averaging 21.4 points. The Oakwood, Ill. native averaged 7.8 rebounds per game while having a 52.6 field goal percentage through 2830 minutes played.

MVC Preseason Polls Released
The Racers are picked to place seventh in the 2023-24 MVC season in a poll by the league's head coaches and media members. Murray State finished the regular season in eighth place in the 2022-23 season. UNI is predicted to win the regular season, followed by Drake in second. In the respective order, Illinois State, Belmont and Missouri State join the Iowa teams in the top five.

Second Year in The Valley
The Racers embark on their second season in The Valley as they host Valparaiso, Dec. 30. The first Valley road game will be when the Racers visit Indiana State, Jan. 11.

Their January slate will end with back-to-back home games, with visits from Southern Illinois (Jan. 26) and UIC (Jan. 28).

Murray State will face an old rival in Belmont when they visit Nashville, Feb. 3. The Bruins will visit The Bank on February 25. Before the visit from Belmont, the Racers will host two more home games in February, with visits from Drake (Feb. 15) and UNI (Feb. 17).

Going into the final stretch of the regular season, the Racers have a pair of home games against Evansville (March 1) and Indiana State (March 3). MSU will close the regular season on the road with trips to Illinois State (March 7) and Bradley (March 9).

The Hoops at the Heartland will be hosted at Moline, Ill., on March 14-17, where all 12 teams will get the chance to win a spot at the 2024 Women's March Madness.

Before entering their second MVC campaign, the Racers will host four non-conference games. After debuting on the CFSB's new floor in an exhibition against Lindsey Wilson, the Racers will host Cumberland Tenn. (Nov. 14), Bellarmine (Nov. 21), UT Martin (Nov. 28) and old rivals Austin Peay for the Popeyes Battle of the Border on Dec. 9.
