The Racers took on the SMU Mustangs for the first time in program history
The Murray State Racers fell 92-65 to the SMU Mustangs in their final game before Christmas at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers (3-9) are back to action at the CFSB Center (Dec. 30) when they host Middle Tennessee in a 3 p.m. game and then get back to Missouri Valley Conference play (Jan. 2) at home against UIC.
Quincy Anderson led the Racers with 18 points, all in an excellent first half on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including three 3-point baskets to go with four rebounds as Murray State cut a 12-point deficit to six at 20-14 at 14:02. Murray State's Brian Moore, Jr. scored 13 points for the Racers to give the team their second in double figure scoring.
In a run of games in which the Racers' defense has faltered in the month of December, in their first meeting with the visitors from Texas, SMU hit the Racers with an amazing night of 59 percent from the field (34-of-57) and 15 3-pointers. MSU's 47 percent first half shooting fell to 20 percent (7-of-35) in the second half.
