The Racers sign three pitchers that will join the team for the 2025 season.
The Murray State baseball program signed three right-handed pitchers in Tanner Johnson, Nic Schutte and Reese Oakley on Thursday.
"In addition to our group of November signees, Tanner Johnson, Nic Schutte and Reese Oakley round out a talented, high-character group in our 2024 class," head coach Dan Skirka said. "Tanner, Nic and Reese were guys we identified and targeted throughout the duration of the fall, and we are excited to have them join the Racer family."
Johnson, native of Celina, Texas, will join MSU as a transfer from Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. Johnson attended Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin where he earned First Team All-Conference recognitions, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
The righty was selected First Team NJCAA Division 1 Region 4 All-Region his freshman year at Triton and will be the Trojans' ace for the 2024 season.
Native of Louisville, Kentucky, Schutte will join the baseball program transferring from Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Schutte attended Western Kentucky before transferring to Motlow State this fall.
While at Louisville Male High School he graduated on the Dean's List along with being a standout student-athlete in baseball in football. Schutte was named a Kentucky All-State quarterback and won a 6A football state championship.
Another Bluegrass native, Oakley will graduate from Marshall County High School this spring. A leader for the Marshals on the mound, Oakley heads into his senior season after compiling an impressive junior season in 2023.
With 34 innings pitched in six starts and nine total appearances, Oakley fanned 50 batters with an ERA of 2.68. He was selected to Kentucky's Region 1 All-Region team and named Western Kentucky's Biokinetics High School Athlete of the Week and Paducah Local 6's Athlete of the Week in March.
"These guys bring a high level of competitiveness and arm talent to our pitching staff while also excelling in the classroom," Skirka added. "We're happy to welcome three student-athletes of this caliber to our program."
