Chisolm’s Multi-Homer Day Sets Stage for Perritano’s Extra-Inning Walk-Off

MURRAY, Ky. – Anthony Perritano delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Murray State Baseball to an 8-7 victory over Indiana State on Sunday, snapping a six-game losing skid. The win at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park marked only the second home victory over the Sycamores in program history.
Perritano's walk-off single was his second hit of the day and the first walk-off of his career. The 10th-inning rally began with a one-out single by Conner Cunningham, followed by a groundout by Kris Hokenson that moved Cunningham into scoring position. Perritano then secured the win on the first pitch he saw.
"Everybody wants to hit the walk-off home run and ends up popping up or hitting a weak ground ball," head coach Dan Skirka said. "Conner started it with a line drive, and then Hokenson moves the baseball and doesn't strike out, that's huge. AP followed suit, gave him the opportunity and he was right on the first pitch."
The victory was the second walk-off win of the 2026 season for the Racers (28-24, 13-8 MVC), with both coming at home.
Connor Chisolm fueled the Murray State offense with a 3-for-5 performance, including two two-run home runs and four RBIs. Chisolm became just the second Racer this season to record a multi-homer game, joining Kainen Jorge's April 12 performance. Chisolm finished the series with a .615 batting average and a 1.308 slugging percentage across the three-game set.
Jorge also contributed significantly, hitting a solo home run in the third inning and adding an RBI double in the seventh. Jorge and Chisolm's power display in the third inning made them only the second pair of Racers to homer in the same inning this year.
"He's had good at-bats all year, and he's one of those guys that's had some tough luck," Skirka said of Chisolm. "He's been on the barrel a lot and he got rewarded today. The two home runs but also the double in left-center. He's just had really good at-bats."
The three home runs on Sunday brought Murray State's series total to five, the most home runs hit by the Racers in a Missouri Valley Conference series this season.
The game remained tight throughout as Indiana State (28-23, 14-7 MVC) capitalized on early opportunities. The Sycamores took an unearned 1-0 lead in the second inning after a throwing error by Drew Deremer and a sacrifice bunt. Indiana State tied the game twice more, once in the sixth inning on a two-run homer and again in the eighth inning. Trailing 7-5 in the eighth, the Sycamores used an RBI single and an RBI groundout by to force extra innings.
Ben Rosin (3-1) earned the win with three innings of nearly flawless relief. Rosin allowed just one hit and struck out three, marking his second strong performance of the weekend.
"We went toe-to-toe for 18 innings the last two days," Skirka said. "They could have easily just showed up today and went through the motions and cashed it in… That's a tough win, and this time of year, hopefully that builds some momentum, and we can keep it rolling."
Murray State hosts North Alabama on Tuesday in a rematch of a February meeting. Tuesday's game will be the final regular-season action at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park for the 2026 season.
