Racers fall in first road match of the season
Murray State Tennis fell 4-3 to Western Kentucky in their first road match of the season, Friday. Â
The Racers' Annika Pschorr/Natalie Slezakova doubles pair won their match (6-4) which unfortunately wasn't enough. Hilltoppers Samantha Martinez/Mariana Zegada doubles pair won their match (6-3). Fellow WKU doubles pair Paola Cortez/Sayda Hernandez clinched WKU the doubles point by defeating Sarah Bureau/Emma Honore (6-3).
Entering into singles play, Sarah Bureau won in straight sets against her opponent Sayda Hernandez (6-4), (6-2) earning the Racers their first point. Paola Campigotto also won her singles match (6-2), (7-6) and Emma Honore in three sets (4-6), (6-3), (1-0). WKU clinched the match in their third flight of singles from Rachel Hermanova, (6-3), (6-4).
"Tough first road match of the season and it won't get any easier from now on. WKU got the early lead and never really allowed us to get the momentum in our favor," said head coach Jorge Caetano.
"Proud of everyone's effort though and these types of matches will only prepare us for what the MVC is going to look like."
