Win over Knights gives MSU 4-1 weekend record

The Murray State softball team beat Bellarmine, 4-2, Sunday at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky in the final game of the Inaugural Velvet Milkman Invitational.

Fast Facts

Murray State scored first in the game in the third inning on a double from Gracie Osbron. The two-bagger scored Adison Hicks from second, who reached on a double of her own in the previous at bat.
With the bases loaded in the fifth, Bre Haislip smashed a pinch-hit double to the wall that cleared the bases and gave the Racers a 4-0 lead. Bellarmine scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough, as Murray State held on for the win.
Hannah James struck out the first two batters of the game to become the only Racer in program history to record 600-plus strikeouts.
James got the win in the circle Sunday by pitching a complete game and striking out a season-high 11 batters.

What's Next?
Next up for the Racers will be the 2023 Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament at Nusz Park in Starkville, Mississippi hosted by Mississippi State. While in the Magnolia State, the Racers will take on the host Bulldogs, Dartmouth and Abilene Christian.
