The Weekend
After winning its final three games last weekend, the Murray State softball team will look to build on that momentum this weekend at the 2023 Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament in Starkville Mississippi State, hosted by Mississippi State.
Against The Field

The Opponents
• Abilene Christian: Abilene Christian is currently 4-12 on the season after dropping a 5-4 mid-week decision at Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday. Mercedes Eichelberger currently leads the Wildcats offensively with a .340 average and six RBIs. In the circle, Talia Nielsen is 3-4 with a team-low ERA of 4.70 with 22 strikeouts.
• Dartmouth: The Big Green opened their 2023 season last weekend at The Spring Games where they went 3-2. While in Florida, Dartmouth notched wins over FIU, UT Martin and Valpo, while falling to Sienna and Notre Dame. Maddie Katona hit .455 for the Big Green last week, while Kate Farren drove in a team-high six runs. Rachel McCarroll won all three games for the Big Green at The Spring Games by posting a 2.64 ERA with 10 strikeouts.
• Mississippi State: Mississippi State enters the weekend on a six-game win streak and is currently 12-4 on the season. Paige Cook leads the Bulldogs in batting average at .400 with Kiersten Landers following at .386. Josey Maron is 5-0 in the circle for Mississippi State season with a 1.30 ERA, 43 strikeouts and just four walks.
Notes
• Gracie Osbron went 8-for-15 on the week for a team-high batting average of .585. The redshirt senior finished the week with three runs, two doubles, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
• Hannah James went 1-0 with a save over three appearances and 14.0 innings of work this past week. The redshirt senior allowed four earned runs on 115 hits for an ERA of 2.00 for the five-game stretch. In addition, James fanned 22 over the course of the weekend, including 11 against Bellarmine, all while not issuing a single walk.
• Bre Haislip went 1-1 on the week with seven strikeouts and a 4.00 ERA over two appearances and 7.0 innings of work last week. In the weekend's finale against Bellarmine, the freshman hit a double to the wall in a pinch-hit at-bat, that drove in three runs and made the difference in the 4-2 win.
• Through 14 games this season, the Murray State pitching staff has hit just one batter. The Racers currently lead the nation in the category along with 12 other teams.
• Lily Fischer has hit a team-high six doubles so far this season. She is currently 18th nationally in total doubles and 39th in doubles per game at 0.43.
• Murray State is currently averaging 0.5 double plays per game and has seven on the season. The Racers are currently 17th in double plays per game, nationally, and just four away from tying their 2022 total.
