Racers Clinch Top-Four Seed as They Split Doubleheader

Murray State softball clinch the top-four seed for the MVC Tournament with game one win over Missouri State.

In a Nutshell
Murray State softball split doubleheader against Missouri State after winning the first game 3-0 and falling the second game 1-2, Saturday. The Racers clinch a top-four seed for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with the game-one win.

MSU scored early in the first game, with Taylor Jackson opening the scoreboard with a two-RBI single to center field, scoring Gracie Osbron and Jadyn Thompson home in the first inning. Ailey Schyck keeps the ball rolling with an RBI double to center field on the next at-bat to bring Jackson home.

Hannah James led from the circle to keep the lead and take the shutout win for the Racers.

Keeping the trend, Murray scored first in the second game from an RBI single to center field by Lindsey Carroll. The Bears came back as Tess Weakly hit a home run in the fifth inning before sealing it when Annie Muller reached home by an error in the seventh.

Fast facts

Murray State has clinched a top-four seed in the MVC Tournament which will be held at Southern Illinois Thursday.
James adds another shutout for her 25th career shutout and seventh of the season. She had eight strikeouts while only allowing five hits and a walk.
