Murray State women's tennis combined for a 20-13 record in the UCA Invitational last weekend

Murray State women's tennis got off to a successful start to the fall slate with a combined record of 20-13 at the Central Arkansas Invitational in Conway, Ark., on Friday and Saturday. Sarah Bureau shined bright for the Racers, going a perfect 6-0 on the weekend including three singles wins and three doubles wins with partner Paola Campigotto.

Campigotto followed closely behind with a 5-1 overall record at UCA while Natalie Slezakova put together a 4-1 overall record in the invitational.

Freshmen Varya Alexeyeva and Valeria Chaikovskaia each picked up their first wins at MSU.

"Our goal for this weekend was to get better as a team and that goal was accomplished," said coach Jorge Caetano. "We were very competitive across the board and let a few matches slip out of our hands but it's something that can happen early in the season."

Caetano continued, "The team competed well but I was even more pleased with the fantastic job everyone did supporting one another throughout this long weekend. Sarah led the way both on and off the court this weekend and this is what we expected from our seniors. Our freshmen Val and Varya showed they are going to help us a lot this season. Both of them haven't competed in over 8 months so to see them in action competing their hearts out is all we can ask from them."
