Murray State breaks a 4x400-meter relay record that was previously set in January.
The Murray State women's track and field team ended its final event of the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee by marking a new indoor program record in the 4x400-meter relay.
The quartet of senior Kayla Bell, sophomores Simone Joseph and Chelby Melvin and freshman Anouk Joseph saw a first-place finish with a time of 3:39.60, surpassing the Racers' previous record that was set at the Commodore Challenge earlier this season.
"Overall, this was a great weekend heading into conference in a few weeks," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "The competition was very good and I think we rose to the occasion."
10 personal records were set during the two-day meet, marking the fourth-consecutive meet with at least 10 PRs. Ruth Kimutai and Jocelyn Host saw the biggest jumps to their personal bests, with Kimutai shaving nearly 36 seconds off her record and Host 27 seconds off of hers in the 5,000-meter run.
"A number of people moved up the conference list, which is always nice to see this time of year," Kiesler added. "The 4x4 capped off the weekend breaking a big milestone by running under 3:40, which was a great way to end the regular season."
Murray State now looks ahead to the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Chicago, Illinois on February 25-26.
