Murray State softball wins 5-1 over IUPUI before dropping to Western Illinois.

In A Nutshell
Murray State softball splits day one at Velvet Milkman Classic with a 5-1 win over IUPUI before falling 3-6 to Western Illinois, Friday.

With the loss the Racers now has a 4-8 record this season.

Vs. IUPUI
IUPUI's Alex Holman gives the visitors an early lead in the second inning with a home run to left center. The Racers responded in the third inning with as Taylor Jackson hit an RBI single to score Bailey Broemmer home.

Murray State found more offense in the fifth inning with when the score three runs with RBIs posted by Kayleigh White and Riley Jestadt. To cap it off, Lily Fischer sac flied to center field to score Broemmer home.

Jenna Veber got her fourth win of the season.

Vs. Western Illinois
The Leathernecks got on the scoreboard early with two runs in the first inning. The Racers tied the game in the fourth inning but WIU regained the lead in the fifth inning with two runs and added a buffer in the seventh inning.

What's next?
Murray State will face Toledo (2 p.m. CT) and IUPUI (4:30 p.m. CT) for the second day of the Velvet Milkman Classic, tomorrow.
