Racers Finish As Runner-Ups At MVC Indoor Championships
2/26/2024 9:44:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
For the second-straight year, Murray State saw a second-place finish in Chicago.
The Murray State women's track and field team ended the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in second place with 113 points at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park in Chicago, Illinois.
The team finished just eight points behind the indoor champions of Indiana State, who totaled 121 points.
"We are extremely proud of the team for the way they competed the last few days," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "The goal was to win, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. The kids like Jenna Pauly and others who did multiple events put everything they had on the line to win for their teammates and school, and we came up just short."
The Racers saw 10 podium finishes including five event wins.
"There were so many bright spots like the high jump, long jump, 60-meter, 400-meter and the 4x400-meter relay that were amazing to see."
Pauly was the first in the Blue and Gold to earn an event victory at the indoor championships. She won the long jump the first day of the meet with a distance of 5.96 meters on Sunday.
Kayla Bell obtained the first win on Championship Monday for MSU in the 400-meter with a season-best 54.01 seconds. Chelby Melvin finished third in the 400 to put two Racers on the podium with a time of 55.44.
Faith Bostick made her own impact on Monday seeing two podium finishes. She finished first in the 60-meter dash tying her personal record and school record of 7.39 seconds, followed by a runner-up finish in the 200-meter with a personal best of 24.01 seconds.
Alyssa Williams set her own personal record in the 60-meter dash racing alongside Bostick with a time of 7.52 seconds. Williams earned her own podium appearance after finishing third in the event.
Meghan Fletcher and Brooke Probst created their own version of a one-two punch in the high jump with a first- and second-place finish. Fletcher won the event with a season-best 1.77 meters and Probst was the runner-up with a height of 1.71 meters, just .01 short of tying her own personal record.
The day was capped off after Murray State's 4-by-400-meter relay team comprised of Bell, Melvin, Simone Joseph and Anouk Krause-Jentsch placed first with a time of 3:40.50. The quartet's time set a new MVC Indoor Championships record that was previously set by Illinois State in 2016 (3:42.05).
Murray State now turns its attention to the outdoor portion of the 2023-24 season which opens up at home for the Margaret Simmons Invite on March 22-23 in Murray, Kentucky.
"I know everyone who was at this meet is ready to get back to work and see what we can do outdoor," Kiesler added.
