Sophomore Ethan Lyke was nearly perfect through six innings of work in his first start of 2024.
Murray State handled the North Alabama Lions with ease, winning by a score of 8-1 on Tuesday at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers scored six of their eight runs through the first three frames, including a four-run first inning.
Drew Vogel and Dustin Mercer became the starting points of Murray State's big inning with back-to-back base hits to open up the game. Jonathan Hogart then ripped a single through the left side to score Vogel and put the Racers on the board.
After a double steal by Mercer and Hogart, Carson Garner turned in an RBI base hit of his own followed by Hogart scoring on a passed ball. Logan Bland capped off the frame with a single to the left-center gap on a full count with two outs.
Mercer was responsible for MSU's next two runs with a line drive solo shot over the right field fence in the second inning and an RBI infield single in the third.
The Lions scored their lone run in the top of the eighth on a solo shot from Cal Cook.
Parker Estes blasted his first home run of the season with a two-run shot to right-center after subbing in at first base at the top of the frame, capping off scoring for the Racers.
Sophomore Ethan Lyke tossed six scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out five batters. Jordyn Naranjo threw two innings of relief, striking out five of his seven batters faced while allowing just one run on one hit.
Mercer finished with four hits on the day, scoring three runs and driving in a pair of RBIs.
The Racers travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in a weekend series March 1-3 at 3 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. All times listed are in Central Standard Time.
