Longtime supporters of the Racers invest towards capital campaign initiatives and enhancement of athletic facilities
Murray State Athletics has received $1.4 million in gifts from the Jim Bob Kevil estate and the former Racer Foundation, it was announced on Wednesday.
Â
The funding will help the department with capital campaign initiatives to enhance the Athletics footprint, furthering the Racers' commitment to the student-athlete experience. This generous investment marks the fifth seven-figure gift given to Racer Athletics this year.
Â
"Mr. Kevil was an avid supporter of Murray State Athletics and we cannot thank him enough for this incredibly generous investment into our athletics department during his lifetime," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "These transformational gifts will have a major impact on our future plans as we continue to make significant progress around our facilities and the student-athlete experience."
Â
Murray State has seen unprecedented growth around its facilities, having already begun more nearly $2 million in capital projects, including the newly announced weight room renovation in Roy Stewart Stadium and the renovation of the men's basketball locker room.
Other projects that have been completed over the last 18 months include the Baseball/Softball Performance Center, upgrades to football team spaces and the new LED lights in the CFSB Center.
Â
"Jim Bob Kevil loved Murray State University and Racer Athletics and his estate gift will leave a lasting legacy. In addition, I want to recognize and thank the former Racer Foundation for their gift from a few years ago to support our Athletic programs. These combined gifts will leave an indelible mark on this institution as we move forward, both academically and athletically," President Dr. Bob Jackson said.
Â
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
