In A Nutshell
Murray State softball falls on short end of close battle with Illinois State as they drop first game at Illinois State (5-6), Friday.

The Racers are now 2-3 in conference play.

How it went
The Racers took the head start as Lily Fischer singled to pitcher on the second pitch of the day. Parker Holcombe reached on a fielder's choice before Taylor Jackson advanced the runners with a single through right side. Kayleigh White hit an RBI single to score Holcombe home before Jackson scored on a throw to give the Racers a two-run lead in the first inning.

The Redbirds scored four runs in the third inning through a wild pitch and a three-run home run but the Racers responded in the top of the fifth inning with three runs from Jackson's home run and Ava Ozment's two RBI single.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Illinois State hits a two RBI double to walk the game off.

Murray State will resume their series against Illinois State, tomorrow.
