Melvin Named Missouri Valley Women’s Track Athlete Of The Week

Chelby Melvin received MVC weekly honors for the second time this season.

Sophomore hurdler and sprinter Chelby Melvin was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

The St. Louis, Missouri native received the honor after seeing first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles on her home track at the Margaret Simmons Invite in Murray, Kentucky.

Her time of 14.14 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles is the second-fastest time in the MVC and is top 20 in the Division I Southeast Region. With her time of 1:00.54 in the 400-meter hurdles sits atop the conference outdoor standings, fourth in the Southeast Region and tied for 47th in the nation.

Melvin is set to compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas March 28-30.
