Racers Drop Series To Flames

Carson Garner is now tied for the 10th-most home runs in a season in program history.
Murray State dropped the rubber match to UIC on Sunday, 15-5, in eight innings at Curtis Granderson Stadium in Chicago, Ill.
The Flames jumped ahead with a four-run first inning on a pair of RBI singles and a two-run double before making it 5-0 through two innings with another RBI base hit in the second. The Racers answered back with two runs in the third on a ground-rule RBI double by Carson Garner followed by a base hit from Jonathan Hogart to score Garner.
UIC and MSU exchanged runs with the Flames scoring two in the bottom of the fourth on a groundout and an error. The Racers scored two of their own in the top of the fifth on a pair of RBI doubles from Hogart and Dan Tauken.
The Flames extended their lead with two more runs scored in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Garner cut the deficit to 9-5 in the seventh with his 14th home run of the season, putting him in a tie for the 10th-most home runs in a single season in Murray State baseball history.
UIC scored two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth, including a two-run home run to get the walk-off run rule.
Garner and Hogart both went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, with Drew Vogel and Tauken also recording multi-hit games.
The Racers look ahead to the start of a four-game home span against Bellarmine at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 23 at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.
