Racers Outlast Bellarmine In Midweek Tilt

The Racers totaled five home runs in Tuesday’s win over the Knights, two of which were off the bat of Drew Vogel.
Drew Vogel led off with his 10th home run of the season on the second pitch of the game to put the Racers on top first. Jonathan Hogart then blasted a two-run homer after Dustin Mercer reached base on a single.
The Knights answered back in the second with four runs scored on an RBI groundout, an RBI single and a two-run homer. The Racers answered back immediately, retaking the lead on two sacrifice flies from Preston Shelton and Vogel. Dan Tauken then extended MSU's lead to 6-4 with an RBI knock in the third.
Bellarmine tied the game again in the fourth with a two-run homer before Murray State regained its two-run lead on a pair of solo home runs from Parker Estes and Vogel, bringing Vogel to two home runs on the day and 11 on the year.
The Knights made it a one-run game with an RBI double in the sixth. Murray State continued to answer back with runs of their own, scoring two in the seventh on Dan Tauken's 11th long ball and two more in the eighth on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Mercer to score Shelton.
Reed Braundmeier earned his first win as a Racer, tossing 3 1/3 relief innings allowing just one earned run on two hits, a walk and a strikeout. Nathan Holler picked up his fifth save of the season after tossing the final 2/3 innings of the game, giving up just two hits and a punch out.
Vogel recorded his team-leading 17th multi-hit game this year, Hogart his 16th and Tauken his 15th. Estes also tabbed a multi-hit night, going 3-3 with two runs and an RBI. Tauken and Vogel each drove in three RBIs and Hogart drove in two on his home run. Hogart scored three runs and Vogel added a pair of runs scored.
Murray State looks ahead to hosting the Illinois State Redbirds April 26-28 for a Missouri Valley matchup at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.
