Racers Extend Streak in Win Against Drake

The Racers are undefeated in conference play with a win over the Drake Bulldogs
Murray State women's tennis defeated preseason favorites, Drake, in a close match on Sunday. The Racers move to 4-0 in conference play, making them the only team in the MVC that is undefeated in conference play.
The Racers started off the match dropping the doubles point. This is only the second time that the Racers have dropped the doubles point and still went on to win the match.
In singles play, the Racers bounced back. Freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia defeated the reigning MVC Player of The Year, Ines Stephani, for her 9th singles win this spring. This was only Stephani's second loss of the season, the previous two coming against Power Five opponents. Graduate Marit Kreugel extended her record, earning her 8th singles win this spring. She leads the team in win percentage in singles with a 8-1 record.Â
Graduate Emma Honore continued her hot streak, clinching the match for the Racers with a dominant third set against Bulldog Rebecca Ehn. This is Honore's third straight match clinching win. The Racers defeated the Bulldogs 4-3, making them 11-5 on the season.
"Drake really pushed us in all aspects and our resilience was put to the test in this match," Coach Jorge Caetano said. "We missed a lot of opportunities and could have made things easier but I am just proud of the way we were able to forgive ourselves and look ahead in order to find a way to pull out the win."
