Melvin’s Record Season Ends In NCAA Championships Prelims

After finishing among the top 16, Melvin earns Second Team All-American honors.
Chelby Melvin saw her run to the 400-meter hurdles finals come to an end after missing the cut to advance from the preliminary round at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The St. Louis, Missouri native's time of 57.45 was just 1.2 seconds off from qualifying for the final round on Saturday. She finished fifth in the second heat among six student-athletes from Power 5 schools. Melvin's time finished 16th, tabbing her as a Second Team All-American for her performance.
"We are so proud of Chelby attaining All-American status," head coach Adam Kiesler said. "She is a competitor and absolutely went for it and that's all we can ask."
Including qualifying rounds at the respective meets she competed in this outdoor season, Melvin set a new school record in six of the last eight times she has raced in the event.
"She once again did a great job of representing her team, the school and herself" Kiesler added. "It's been a great ride that I am very happy to be a part of."
Meghan Fletcher competes in the high jump finals on Saturday, June 8 at Hayward Field. The high jump flight is set for a 4:00 p.m. CT start time with live video available on ESPN and ESPN+.
