
Racers Sweep Mocs to Finish Cougar Classic

Murray State improves to 5-4 after defeating Chattanooga.
Murray State Volleyball (5-4) defeated the Chattanooga Mocs (7-4) in a 3-0 sweep at the SIUE Cougar Classic on Saturday, September 14.Â
ÂThe Racers set the tone early, dominating the first set 25-11. The Racers finished the first on a 14-1 run as the set ended with a pair of errors by the Mocs. The Mocs put up a better fight in the second, however, the Racers were able to hold them off to win 25-23. The Racers came out hot in the third set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead on the way to a 25-16 win and the sweep.Â
ÂThree different Racers recorded double-digit kills, with Ella Vogel and Darci Metzger leading the way as they recorded 13 each and Haidi Miliou putting up 10. It was an efficient day for Metzger as she recorded a hitting percentage of .565. Bailey DeMier recorded 38 assists and Dahlia Miller had 22 digs. Â
Â"I'm very proud of how my team finished this weekend," said head coach David Schwepker. "Although it started slow, the girls came together for a common goal and played at a very high level. This weekend really excites me for conference play."
ÂThe Racers will begin Missouri Valley Conference play next weekend on the road against the Illinois State Redbirds at 6:00 p.m. CT on Friday, September 27. Â
