Game Storylines
- The Murray State Racers take on the Butler Bulldogs for the first time when they play the 52nd season of pigskin at Roy Stewart Stadium.
- The game is the first home game of the 100th season in MSU history.
- Kick off time for the Racers and Bulldogs is 6 p.m.
- The game also marks the continuation of Murray State's Racer 1 tradition.Â
- Student-jockey Madison Presley will take Racer 1 around the track this season each time the Racers score a touchdown.
- The Racers are 170-104-2 all-time at Stewart Stadium.
- The Racers are 18-6 since 2000 in home openers at Stewart Stadium and have won four of the last five including a year ago against Pioneer Conference team Presbyterian 34-3.
- New MSU Head Coach Jody Wright was hired in January as the 20th head coach in MSU history.Â
- Wright joins the Racers after a stellar career that saw him work with some of the biggest names in collegiate football including Nick Saban, Shane Beamer and Billy Napier.
- If the Racers win, Wright will become the 12th MSU head coach of 20 to win their first home game.
- The Racers have a re-built roster with 65 players who were playing someplace else a season ago.
- MSU has 46 transfer players in 2024. 26 of which are from FBS or FCS programs.
- The Racers are facing their fifth Pioneer League team among the current PFL lineup and are 4-1 all-time.
- MSU's last Pioneer opponent was Presbyterian at home last year, which was a 41-10 win for the Racers. Â
- Taking on national championship contender Missouri last week was predictably a tall order as the No. 11 ranked Tigers won the game 51-0.
- The Racers look to get their offense going this week after Mizzou held them to only five first downs and 85 total yards.
- New MSU quarterback Jayden Johannsen was 7-of-13 passing with one interception and 27 yards. He was sacked twice.
- Amari Wansley led the MSU defense with 10 tackles.
- KaVan Reed started at CB for the Racers and had five tackles, a tackle for loss and one pass breakup.
- The Racers are trying to snap a three game home skid with losses last season in the MVFC to Southern Illinois, North Dakota and Youngstown State. MSU's last home win was over Indiana State 30-28 on Sept. 7, 2023.
