Racers Round Out Preseason in Dominant Fashion

Murray State women's basketball defeated Trevecca 102-61
Murray State women's basketball rounded out preseason play in emphatic fashion Monday night, cruising to a 102-61 win over Trevecca Nazarene at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Junior guard Haven Ford picked up right where she left off last season, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-4 from three on her way to a game-high 22 points. She also added six rebounds and four assists in a near-flawless outing. Halli Poock poured in 20 points with four made threes, while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks and Keslyn Secrist each reached double figures with 17 and 14, respectively. Braxcynn Baker provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
The Racers set the tone early, racing out to a 35-21 lead after the first quarter and taking a 59-35 advantage into halftime. Murray State shot 57 percent in the opening period and stayed hot throughout, finishing the night at 53 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc.
Defensively, MSU controlled the glass and the pace, winning the rebound battle 36-29 and turning 20 Trevecca turnovers into 24 points.
Trevecca was led by Tatum Shaw, who scored 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting.
The Racers will begin the regular season on the road at Southern Indiana on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
