Taylor Named MVC Newcomer of the Week

The MSU sophomore hit six of MSU’s team-record 18 3-point baskets in a win over Akron
Murray State's Layne Taylor has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office in St. Louis.
Out of Farmington, Arkansas, Taylor scored 23 points on a career-tying six 3-point baskets to help the Racers to a 115-100 win over the Akron Zips at the Jack Jones Classic in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Taylor hit 7-of-11 shots from the field, including 6-of-9 from the 3-point line and he was 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
As the assist-to-turnover ratio leader in the MVC, Taylor had eight assists against the Zips and didn't commit a turnover.
On the season, Taylor is scoring an average of 8.3 points per game and is third in The Valley with 4.5 assists per game.
The Racers are home Thursday (Dec. 18) for their MVC opener when they host the Drake Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. As the final home game before Christmas, the game also features Christmas at The Bank & the annual Teddy Bear Toss sponsored by Max's 641 Towing. Santa Claus will be available for photos from the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. to tip time at 7 p.m.
