Racers Push Home Win Streak to seven in Win Over Bellarmine

The Racers head into final exam week at Murray State at 7-3
Murray State Racers ran past the Bellarmine Knights Saturday 81-68 for their seventh-straight victory at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.

The Racers (7-3) pause in the coming week for final exams, before heading to the Jack Jones Classic in the Las Vegas area to meet the Akron Zips on Saturday (Dec. 13).

JJ Traynor was 8-of-12 from the field for 17 points and six rebounds, while Roman Domon came off the bench for his fifth-straight double-digit performance with 16 points and five rebounds. Javon Jackson added 14 points and Fred King tossed in 12 points with nine rebounds.

Traynor and Domon scored MSU's final eight points for a 47-34 lead at the intermission.

Traynor was at it at the start of the second half when he scored eight-straight points for the Racers to get a 55-40 lead with 17:35 remaining.

The Racers hit the Knights with a 12-2 run to build their largest lead of the game with 7:36 left at 75-51, but had to hold off a late run by Bellarmine that cut the lead to 12 with 2:30 left.

- The Racers are 8-1 this season when they score 80 points or more, with the only loss at SMU (Nov. 11) by a score of 102-91.
- MSU is 5-0 at the CFSB Center this season and coupled with taking the final two games last season, their home win streak is now at seven.
- MSU's next home game is their Missouri Valley Conference opener (Dec. 18) against the Drake Bulldogs.
- MSU didn't get to the free throw as much as they have this season with a 10-of-11 day, both their makes and attempts were a season low for the Racers.
- MSU limited the Knights to only two offensive rebounds and won the day 35-18.
- MSU defended the 3-point line today and held Bellarmine to 6-of-18 .333 for the day.
- In he first 10 games, the Racers haven't allowed double-digits from the 3-point line.
- The day was marked by an amazing reunion of the 1999-00 team that won the final of seven-straight OVC championships at MSU for Coach Tevester Anderson 25 years ago.
- Isaac Spencer, inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2014, had his No. 31 jersey retired to become the 15th player in the 101 years of Racer Basketball to be so honored.
- 2000 OVC Player of the Year, Aubrey Reese, was given a 1000-point trophy ball that he never received.
