Murray State wins their home opener on extra inning hit from Tauken
The Murray State Baseball team (3-0, MVC 0-0) won their home opener against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (5-1, C-USA 0-0) in extra innings thanks to Dan Tauken. Tauken, the redshirt senior from Congers N.Y., laced a one out single to left field scoring Carson Garner as the Racers improved to 3-0 on the 2025 season.
Tauken went 2-4 and added two walks at the dish to lead MSU's offense.
Murray State trailed after a third inning WKU run, but tied the game when Dustin Mercer legged out a one out fielder's choice to plate Luke Mistone to force extras.
Dylan Zentko shined in relief for Murray State. The lefty from Indiana provided the Racers with 4.2 innings of scoreless ball with six strikeouts.
Graham Kelham, relived Zentko and fired two more shutout innings and earned the win.
Racers pitchers as a whole pitched 12 innings with 15 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run.
The Racers return to Johnny Reagan Field tomorrow (Feb. 25) to host the UT-Martin Skyhawks. First pitch is scheduled for 2PM.
For tomorrow afternoon's game, fans should park in the lower public lot outside Roy Stewart Stadium due to lot closures ahead of the evening's Men's Basketball game.
