Tee Time: Racers vs Govs in Battle of the Border Match Play

The Murray State Racers men's golf team to meet the Austin Peay Governors in the fourth annual Battle of the Border Match Play in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

The Saturday competition has been hosted by Hopkinsville Country Club all four times of the event.

The Racers won the first two meetings each by a 5-4 score in 2022 and 2023 and APSU got their first win in 2024 by a 7-1 score.

The one-day competition departs from typical stroke play events involving multiple teams. This event pits individual players against each other in head-to-head play where each hole is a single competition unto itself.

The Racers and Govs stage 10 singles match play tandems and the first six wins and gets bragging rights for another year. A win is worth one point and all 10 matches will play until a winner is decided. If the team score is tied 5-5 after the 10 matches, the tie will be broken by the team that has the largest total of combined winning margin. If that doesn't break the tie, each team will select one of their student-athletes and there will be a single sudden death playoff.

The first pairing tees off at 11 a.m. when Murray State's Derek Limberg takes on APSU's Will Swigart. The final match goes off the first tee at Hopkinsville Country Club at 12:12 p.m. when MSU's Jay Nimmo meets APSU's Patton Samuels
