The Murray State Racers travel to Nashville, Tenn. for their second midweek matchup with the Belmont Bruins on Tuesday.Â
Belmont (20-7, 4-0 MVC) sits atop the Missouri Valley Conference after the first full week of league play. Murray State (9-14, 1-3 MVC) currently sit in eighth.  Â
The Racers fell to the Bruins 3-0 last week. Bre Haislip and Karlye Graber combined to allow just five hits for the Racers, however, it was not enough to overcome a shutout performance from Maya Johnson that saw her record 17 strikeouts and allow just four hits. Â
Over the weekend, the Racers picked up one win in their series against Bradley, a 4-3 victory in the series opener. Ailey Schyck continued to be a threat at the plate, going 5-8 on the weekend. Erin Lacked led the team with a pair of RBI. Bre Haislip finished with a weekend ERA of 5.25 after allowing seven earned runs across 12 innings of work in two starts. The junior led the team in strikeouts on the weekend with five. Â
The Bruins hosted Drake for their first Missouri Valley Conference series of the season and got the sweep. They finished the weekend with a run differential of 12-4 and have now won nine straight. Maya Johnson picked up another two wins in the circle to improve to 11-1 on the season with an ERA of 0.77.
Following their game with Belmont, The Racers will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for a series at Indiana State. The opening game will be on Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m. with games the following Saturday and Sunday.
