Murray State returns Friday at Indiana State

The Murray State Racers (9-15, 1-4 MVC) lost 8-0 to the Belmont Bruins (22-7, 5-0 MVC) in Nashville, Tenn. on Tuesday afternoon.

The Racers remain eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference, one spot behind this weekend's opponent Indiana State. Belmont remains in first place.

The Bruins got off to a strong start, putting up three runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, Belmont added four more in the third with the first coming on an Emily Cockrill home run. The final run came in the sixth, giving the Bruins an 8-0 run-rule victory.

Alyson Smith started the game and pitched an inning for the Racers, giving up three hits, one earned run, and striking out one. Raylee Roby pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief and gave up four hits and one earned run. Bre Haislip pitched two and a third in relief of Roby and allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out two.

Maya Johnson pitched all six innings for the Bruins, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks, and striking out 12.

The Racers travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for a weekend series at Indiana State. The opening game will be on Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m. with games the following Saturday and Sunday.
