Racers Travel to Terre Haute for Series Against Sycamores

The Murray State Racers will face the Indiana State Sycamores in a three-game series in Terre Haute, Ind.  Â
The Racers (9-15, 1-4 MVC) sit eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings entering the second weekend of conference play. Meanwhile, the Sycamores (6-19, 1-1 MVC) sit one spot ahead. Â
The Racers are coming off of a midweek game at Belmont where they struggled to overcome an outstanding performance from Bruins pitcher Maya Johnson and fell 8-0. Prior to the midweek contest, the Racers picked up one win across a weekend series against Bradley. Â
Ailey Schyck continues to be one of the best hitters in the MVC. Her seven home runs on the year are second in the conference, as is her .703 slugging percentage. The junior is fourth in the league with a 1.114 OPS and leads the Racers with a .328 batting average.   Â
A pair of freshman Racers have had a productive start to the season at the plate. Kenley Minor is batting .276 and leads the team with eight doubles, second most in the MVC. The Clinton, Ind, native also leads the team in stolen bases with five, eighth most in the conference. Katy Huels leads the MVC in triples with three and is tenth in the conference with 16 runs scored. Â
Bre Haislip has been the leading pitcher for the Racers thus far, with a record of 4-7 across 19 appearances and 12 starts. Her 2.85 ERA is ninth best in the MVC while her 73.2 innings pitched are fifth most in the conference. She leads the Murray State Pitching staff with 41 strikeouts on the season.Â
As a team, the Navy & Gold are batting .247 with 148 hits, 36 doubles, six triples, and eleven home runs. The Sycamores are batting .233 with 155 hits, 25 doubles, four triples, and five home runs. Â
Brailey Mills leads the Sycamores with a .293 batting average. She features 12 hits on the season and a pair of RBI. Hannah Welch leads the team with eight RBI while Livi Colip adds seven. Hailey Griffin (4-5) has a team-low ERA of 2.60 with 22 earned runs and 52 strikeouts across 59.1 innings of work. Â
Game one of the series will be played Friday at 3 p.m. ET. Due to anticipated weather conditions in Terre Haute, the Racers and Sycamores will play a Saturday doubleheader with games scheduled for 12 and 2:30 p.m. ET.Â
