Murray State Returns Tomorrow to Host Missouri State

The Murray State Racers 10-18, 1-7 MVC) defeated the UT Martin Skyhawks (11-17, 3-6 OVC) 5-1 in a midweek contest at Racer Field in Murray, Ky.

The Racers snapped a six-game losing streak, picking up their first win since Friday, March 14 when they defeated Bradley 4-3.

Erin Lackey opened the game with a lead off single to right center. She would advance to second before scoring on a UT Martin error to give the Racers a 1-0 lead. Lackey would score again in the third, this time on an RBI triple from Katy Huels. Huels scored on the next at-bat via a sacrifice from Rylee Webb to put the Racer ahead 3-0.

The Skyhawks finally got on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI triple from Kyla Harley, however, the Racers responded with a pair of runs of their own. Erin Lackey added another run on an error and Courtney Sandy scored from second base on a single from Kenley Minor to make it 5-1, Sandy's tenth of the season.

Neither team scored in the final innings, with Bre Haislip collecting a pair of strikeouts in relief in the seventh to hand the Racers the victory.

Karlye Graber (3-4) got the win in the circle, allowing just one earned run in six and one-third innings. The freshman collected five strikeouts, including three to end an inning.

Ava Scott and Kyla Harley led the team with a pair of hits each and Harley recorded the lone RBI for the Skyhawks. Jordyn Hustey (0-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing two earned runs and two walks in two innings.

Murray State returns to Racer Field tomorrow at 5 p.m. CT to kick off a series against the Bears of Missouri State. The series will wrap up on Friday, March 28 with a doubleheader beginning at 3:oo p.m. CT.
