Kimutai Shatters Own MSU Steeplechase Record

On March 27, Murray State's distance specialist, Ruth Kimutai, broke the Racers' program record in the 3000M Steeplechase in St. Louis at the WashU Distance Carnival.

The senior from Eldoret, Kenya, was certain that she would lower her own mark at least once before the end of the 2025 outdoor season, but what she did Friday night in Nashville was simply amazing when she shattered her mark by 20 seconds at the Music City Challenge at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex.

Kimutai posted a time of 10:31.47, much faster that the 10:51.54 she recorded 36 days ago.

Kimutai placed third in a strong field of runners at Vandy, which included Middle Tennessee's Odilia Jepchumba (10:29.91) and Tennessee's Andie-Marie Jones (10:31.28).

The Racers continue their final regular season stop in Nashville, before they compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships (May 17-18) in Carbondale, Illinois.
