MURRAY, Ky. - Following an opening weekend series win over Ohio, the Murray State baseball team looks to keep its bats hot as it travels to Florence, Alabama, for a Wednesday matchup with North Alabama.
The Racers (2-1) put on an electric offensive display to start the 2026 campaign. Murray State scored 37 runs across the three-game set, posting a team batting average of .339 and an OPS of 1.039. The Racers were also active on the basepaths, going a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts.
The Racers' offensive breakout was headlined by senior transfer Kainen Jorge, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on Monday. Jorge hit .462 (6-for-13) in his Murray State debut, slugging .923 and finishing a single shy of the cycle in Sunday's series finale.
As Murray State looks to maintain that momentum, history favors the Racers. MSU holds a 14-6 all-time record against the Lions and has won 13 of the last 14 meetings. The Racers are 8-1 against North Alabama in the Dan Skirka era.
Scouting the Lions North Alabama (2-1) enters the midweek contest fresh off a series victory over former Ohio Valley Conference foe SIUE. The Lions took two of three games in a weekend defined by pitching. UNA held the Cougars to just four total runs across the three games.
Picked fifth in the ASUN Conference preseason poll, North Alabama is coming off a 2025 season in which it went 24-31 and finished third in the ASUN Gold Division.
Game Information First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at UNA's newly renovated Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium. The game will not be streamed, but fans can follow live stats or check @RacersBaseball on social media for updates.
