The Murray State Racers (9-12, 1-1 MVC) and UNI Panthers (8-10, 1-1 MVC) split a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
Game 1: Murray State 10, UNI 9
The Racers got off to a hot start in the opening game of the afternoon, plating four runs in the first inning. Katy Huels notched the opening run of the day on a passed ball before Kenley Minor plated one on a single and Parker Holcombe scored two more on a single of her own to make it 4-0.
UNI began chipping away in the third, as the Panthers scored two on a Katelyn Callahan single. They exploded for six runs the following inning, as the Panthers batted around in the fourth and moved ahead 8-4.
After a quiet fifth inning, UNI tacked on one more in the sixth on a Kate Lappe home run that put them ahead 9-4.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Racers clawed their way back into the game with Parker Holcombe delivering the first run of the inning on her second RBI single of the day. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Ailey Schyck tied the game with a single through the right side that scored two and forced extra innings with the game tied 9-9.
After Karlye Graber retired the side to begin the eighth, Bailey Broemmer delivered the game-winner with an RBI single to right field.
Karlye Graber (3-3) got the win in relief after allowing two earned runs and striking out three in 4 1/3 innings of work.
