MURRAY, Ky. – For the first time in program history, Murray State travels north to face Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Racers and Boilermakers have met 55 times, with Murray State leading the all-time series 36-17-2. All but one of those contests were played in Murray.
The Racers enter the weekend following a 9-5 midweek home win over Memphis, which followed a road series victory over Southern Illinois. That success moved Murray State back atop the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 12-6 record in MVC play.
The Murray State offense has found momentum over the last week, averaging 8.75 runs per game over its last four contests. Colby Ott and Connor Chisolm have headlined the attack; Ott is batting .545 over the last week, while Chisolm is hitting .467. Chisolm had a career day Sunday against SIU, becoming the first Racer since Drew Vogel in 2022 to hit two triples in a game.
Nic Schutte has been stellar on the mound in his last two outings, posting a 0.63 ERA across 14.1 innings and earning wins in both starts. Schutte recorded 15 strikeouts in that span while allowing just one extra-base hit.
The Boilermakers currently sit 63rd in RPI, while the Racers rank 145th nationally. Purdue brings a 29-15 overall record and a 15-9 Big Ten mark into the series. The Boilermakers are in fifth place in the Big Ten standings and are looking to bounce back after being swept for the first time this season last weekend at USC.
The Purdue offense is led by Sam Flores, whose 46 RBIs rank 10th in the Big Ten. He is joined by five other qualified hitters with batting averages over .300.
Series games are slated for 5 p.m., 1 p.m. and noon CT across the weekend. Each game is available to stream on B1G+.
