Get the inside track on the Racers through MSU sports programming
9/6/2004 11:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Imagine easing into your favorite chair, enjoying your favorite sandwich and beverage, while turning in and watching award winning television coverage of the Murray State Racers! You can again enjoy this sports season with the widely popular "Joe Pannunzio Show" and "Mick Cronin Show."
Currently, the Joe Pannunzio Show is giving fans an excellent inside look at the Racers program. Pannunzio regularly wears a microphone during the game, allowing fans to hear what goes on during the game in his interactions with players and officials. This means fans also get to hear Pannunzio's comments in the team in locker room before and after the game.
The "Chalktalk" segment dissects video of a big play from the game, showing it from various angles with an explanation by an MSU assistant coach. In addition, there are audio play-by-play calls from the "Voice of the Racers," Neal Bradley. His radio calls are matched with video for an exciting part of the show.
The coaches' shows have a 21-year history dating back to 1979, when WPSD's Frank Murock launched the programs when Mike Gottfried coached MSU football and Ron Greene coached MSU basketball. Joe Amato hosted the shows for two seasons, then longtime WPSD sports director Larry McIntosh hosted the shows for more than 10 seasons (1983-93) through the Frank Beamer and Mike Mahoney years in football and during the years that Steve Newton and Scott Edgar coached MSU basketball.
Dave Winder has been hosting the shows since 1993 through the Houston Nutt and Denver Johnson years, plus currently with Joe Pannunzio in MSU football and Tevester Anderson's time as coach of MSU basketball, and currently with Mick Cronin. Mark Miller hosted the MSU basketball show during the Mark Gottfried era.
Racer fans should also note that MSU TV-11 is also broadcasting most of the Racers' football games this season on a tape-delayed basis.
