Racers halt seven-match skid with 3-1 win at Morehead State

The Racers (3-9, 1-4 OVC) halted a seven-match skid with the help of 80 digs (20 per game) and 14 blocks. Murray State leads the nation with 20.2 digs per game.
Junior middle blocker Holly Jansen rejected a career-high 10 blocks in the match, one short of the school record of 11, set by junior Katie Kemezys earlier this season.
Freshman Alison Mugler repelled a match-high 28 digs and had six blocks, while freshman libero Heather Norris had 23 digs. Norris leads the OVC in digs, and is ranked 16th in the nation in that category this week.
On offense, junior middle blocker Katie Kemezys led the Racers with 13 kills to go with four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Lisa Forchee added 12 kills, while Mugler completed the double-double with 11 kills. Freshman setter Kelsey Hubert handed out 41 assists for Murray State.
For Morehead State (5-15, 1-4 OVC), Laura Cox led the offense with 23 kils to go with 12 digs. Ashley Doscher added 14 kills, while Diana Zipp and Jessica Ayodele had 10 kills each.
Erin Peak and Kelsey Cronin had 23 digs apiece, while Johanna Thompson had 12. Zipp had six blocks in the match for the Eagles.
Murray State continues this four-match road swing tomorrow (Saturday) with a match at defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky (12-5, 4-1 OVC) at 1 p.m. CT.
