Racers get Samford in five games

Murray State (7-13, 5-8 OVC) and Samford (8-19, 4-9 OVC) were tied for sixth place before tonight's action along with Austin Peay (8-19, 4-9 OVC), but now, the Racers are in sole possession of sixth place with APSU's loss to Eastern Kentucky tonight.
Leading the way for Murray State was freshman outside hitter Alison Mugler, who had a match-high 20 kills to go with a match-high 24 digs. She also served up a co-match-high two aces.
Junior middle blocker Holly Jansen and freshman outside hitter Lisa Forchee each had 13 kills, while freshman outside hitter Alyssa Groves had 11.
Jansen made only two errors in 24 attacks for a .458 percentage. Junior middle blocker Katie Kemezys -- back in action after missing six matches with a back injury -- also hit well, with two errors in 23 attacks for a .261 percentage.
Freshman libero Heather Norris also had 24 digs for the Racers, while Groves and freshman setter Kelsey Hubert had 12 apiece and freshman defensive specialist Ashley Meagher had 11.
Kemezys had a co-match-high seven blocks, while Jansen had five. Hubert handed out a match-high 60 assists.
Samford was paced by Ashley Klare and Sara Sears, who had 19 kills apiece. Kirstein Sosnowski and Jen Powers each had 10 kills. Courtney Gay had 21 digs, while Sears and Jackie Jaszcz each had 20. Powers had seven blocks for the Bulldogs, while Sosnowski and Angela Dempski each had five.
Murray State continues its four-match road swing tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville State.
