The familiar sound of basketballs bouncing on the hardwood can be heard this week at the home of Murray State basketball, the Regional Special Events Center.
The Racers are preparing for a pre-season exhibition trip to Canada, the program's first trip out of the country since 1997, when MSU played in a tournament in Puerto Rico, and the first time ever for the Racers to play on foreign soil.
The Racers will hold an open practice Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the RSEC, followed by a scrimmage at 8 p.m. All fans are invited to attend, admission is free.
"Practice is going great," Cronin said. "The fact that we have so many returning players has made early workouts run smooth. We are looking forward to our trip to Canada and want to give our fans a chance to see us scrimmage before we go.
"Hopefully, we can gain some momentum and experience from this trip, and it will carry over into the regular season."
This trip will be an early indoctrination into the college game for the MSU newcomers, freshmen Tyler Holloway, Marqis Wright and Tony Easley. They have joined sophomore Rob Kennedy on the Racers' roster.
The Racers have five seniors on the squad, including Issian Redding, Keith Jenifer, Darnell Hopkins, Chuck Johnson and Pearson Griffith.
The Racers return the players who played the majority of the minutes last season, including Trey Pearson, who led the Racers in scoring with 14.5 points per game as a sophomore.
The Racers have three scheduled exhibition games in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
