MSU Second Half Run Fades To 74-50 Setback At Chattanooga

The Murray State Racers dropped a 74-50 game to the Tennessee-Chattanooga Mocs Saturday in the first round of the Dr. Pepper Holiday Classic at McKenzie Arena in
The Mocs recovered and pushed their lead back to 14 points at the 13:51 mark, forcing the Racers to dig a little deeper still, but MSU didn't have another run left in them.
When UTC's Kevin Goffney hit a three and Nicchaeus Doaks scored after a Racer miss, the Mocs had their lead back to 18 with 8:55 remaining at 60-42.
The Racers had one player in double-figure scoring, from Marvin Williams who scored a season-high 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting, he was also 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
The Racers' two leading scorers: Danero Thomas and Tyler Holloway were held to a combined eight points on 3-of-19 shooting. The two normally provide an average of 22-plus points to the MSU Attack.
MSU ended the night having their worst shooting performance of the season. MSU was 18-of-60 (.300) from the field and 1-of-17 from three-point range (5.9).
The Racers' first half was a struggle. They scored first on a bucket by Danero Thomas, but quickly fell behind by 10 points on a pair of three-point baskets by UTC's Keyron Sheard, 14-4 with 14:26 remaining in the half.
With 10:51 left, the Racers were down 25-8 after a Kevin Bridgewaters' three-point play.
Ray George scored on a drive and later added two free throws to cut the UTC lead to 26-17 at the 6:33 mark.
UTC finished the half on a 14-6 run to lead 40-23.
