MSU Announces Racer Television Network

In a groundbreaking venture, Murray State Athletics, NewWave Communications and Mediacom announced the formation of the Racer Television Network and a plan to broadcast four MSU men's basketball away games in the 2008-09 season to a combined 58,000 subscribers.

MSU's Dec. 4 game at Eastern Kentucky, and Dec. 6 game at Morehead State are first up, followed by the Feb. 4 game at Tennessee State, and Feb. 17 game at Southeast Missouri State.

This exciting idea was planted several months ago when NewWave President Jim Gleason approached MSU Athletics about this exciting venture.

The formation of the Racer Television Network is great news for Racer fans and college basketball fans in general who now will get to see MSU play road games that they wouldn't normally see.

“I want to thank Mr. Jim Gleason and NewWave Communications for providing this incredible opportunity to cablecast several of our road basketball games,” MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “NewWave is a great partner with Murray State Athletics and is truly committed to providing valuable exposure for our program.”

The games will be available to all NewWave and Mediacom subscribers at no additional charge.

“We at NewWave are excited to be able to offer Murray State sports on a live basis,” Gleason said. “The Racers have a great fan base and we are thrilled to be able to bring their team back home ? live!”

Veteran WCBL announcer Jeff Waters will handle play-by-play duties, while Dave Winder, MSU Assistant AD for Media Relations will provide color.

The telecasts of Racer Basketball will include a pre-game interview with MSU Head Coach Billy Kennedy, plus scores from the Ohio Valley Conference during the game.

The games will be produced by Hopkinsville's WKAG-TV.

Western Kentucky Insurance has agreed to be the title sponsor of the Racer Television Network broadcasts.

“This is an idea that I have long supported and hoped some day would come about,” Lindy Suiter, WKI owner said. “I'm thrilled to be part of getting the Racer Television Network started.”

“I'm excited to get this important television venture off the ground,” Ward added. “Our fans will enjoy watching these important OVC games.”

NewWave customers will see the broadcasts on channel 79 in all areas west of Kentucky Lake and on channel 3 in Hopkinsville and Madisonville, 50,000 subscribers in all.

Mediacom is seen in 8,000 homes in Marshall, Calloway, Trigg, and Caldwell Counties.
