The Murray State Racers travel to the Gentry Center for a Thursday 7:30 p.m. game against the Tennessee State Tigers. The Racers are coming off a split of last week's road trip to Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. The Racers lost 60-47 at EKU last Thursday, but came back Saturday to post a 64-52 win at Morehead State. MSU is 15-9 overall and stands alone in second place in the OVC with an 11-5 mark. TSU is 7-9 this season in the OVC and in an 8th place tie with Southeast Missouri.
In the first meeting between MSU and TSU Jan. 5 in Murray, the Racers scored their highest point total (at the time) in two seasons in the Billy Kennedy era in a 92-88 win. MSU led by 20 with 16:45 but held on for the win after the Tigers cut the lead to four. MSU placed five players in double-figures.
Bruce Carter will finish his career at Murray State ranked among the best players that had two-year runs with the Racers. Currently, Carter's 682 career points rank him 11th all-time and his 293 rebounds places him in seventh place. He is also close to cracking the top-10 in assists.Carter enters the TSU game with 14 straight double-figure scoring games, he is scoring 16.6 points per game during this period.
The Racers are still leading the OVC in a "Grand Slam" of statistics. In league games, MSU leads the OVC in field goal percentage (.495), field goal defense (.415), three-point percentage (.409), and three-point defense (.327). The Racers are the only team in NCAA D-I that can boast this quadruple achievement. There are other teams leading their conferences in three of the categories mentioned including Marist (Metro Atlantic), Stephen F. Austin (Southland), American (Patriot), and Montana (Big Sky).
It's no coincidence when the Racers protect and share the basketball, their chances of winning are better. In Murray State's 16 OVC games, they've had a positive assist-turnover ratio in all 11 wins, and a negative ratio in four of the five losses.
GAME NOTES
within shouting distance of another 20-win campaign. MSU has won 20 or more in 11 of the last 19 seasons. Billy Kennedy has two in his previous nine seasons as a head coach. He's had five in 22 seasons in college basketball.
MSU GRAND SLAM:
As mentioned on page one, the Racers are leading the OVC in hitting field goals and three-pointers and defending them (in league contests). In checking all NCAA D-I conferences, there are other teams that are leading their leagues in three of the categories and some leading in two, but Murray State is the only school leading in all four categories.
Schools leading in three categories

American (Patriot)
Montana (Big Sky)

Marvin Williams grabbed his 100th career rebound Dec. 20 at Samford and is on pace to get to 200 before the season is out.
Bruce Carter zoomed past the 600 career milestone against SEMO on Jan. 26. and will go past 700 before the season is out.
Ray George passed 250 points in his career Jan. 15 against Indiana South Bend. On Feb. 2 against Jacksonville State, he passed 100 career assists.
Kevin Thomas passed 100 career assists in the Feb. 9 game at Morehead State.
SENIOR MOMENTS:
MSU senior Bruce Carter enters the EKU game with 14 straight double-figure scoring games, including his fourth game with 20 or more points at Morehead State Feb. 9. During this time he is scoring 16.6 points per game and getting 6.7 rebounds. Carter is shooting .484 from the field, .357 from three-point land, and .821 from the free throw line. He's also totalled 31 assists. One can only imagine the kind of numbers Carter would put up if he had played at Murray State for four years. The Racers have a rich history of great players who played in a MSU uniform for two seasons or less, and Carter will finish among the best.
