The Murray State Racers are preparing for the final week of the regular season when they travel to Tennessee Tech for a Thursday game and return home Saturday for Senior Day against UT-Martin.
Bruce Carter and Ray George will be honored as they play their final regular season home game.
The Racers stand in second place (12-6) in the OVC with two games to play. The OVC Tournament begins on campus sites Mar. 4. The OVC confirmed today the Racers have secured a home game and will host a to-be-determined opponent in the quarterfinals.
MSU's Thursday game at Cookeville against Tennesse Tech will air on ESPNU at 6 p.m.
MSU Head Coach Billy Kennedy met with local media today for his weekly news conference. Here are some of his comments.
Kennedy's opening comments
“Obviously, we're disappointed in not winning against
The Racers' opponents this week (Tennessee Tech and UT-Martin) also have guards that can penetrate, how do you go about preparing?
“Tennessee Tech presents a lot of problems because Daniel Northern and Amadi McKenzie are probably the best inside tandem in the OVC. Tech hasn't won a lot of games, which is strange, but against
Did the flu bug rolling through the team last week have any effect?
“You don't want to make excuses, but that's a toughness factor, everybody is tired this time of year. Yes, we had three guys miss practice last week (because of the flu), we had to limit Kevin Thomas because he couldn't go more than two or three minutes at a time. Good teams overcome this and it seemed like the end of the first half we were tired and made some mistakes because fatigue was creeping in. There was a five-minute stretch in the second half late in which we were weak and didn't make the plays. You have to overcome it, tough teams do. That's the question with our team right now.”
Ray George is a Racer who is playing his best basketball right now.
“He's playing well and his attitude the last few weeks has been really good. We got 11 points from him off the bench against
Tell us about UT-Martin coming to MSU Saturday.
“Tennessee-Martin has three players that have scored at least 25 points in a game and that's what makes them so good....when
Saturday is senior day for Bruce Carter and Ray George, what are your thoughts on them?
“Bruce was one of the first players we signed when I arrived. He's been a big factor for our team the last two seasons, he does everything and has to play out of position most times. He's our leading rebounder and has been a very good player for us. It's been difficult for Ray George. He came into our program in the middle of the year last season and wasn't eligible to practice in the preseason. He was thrown into the mix right away, and that was a tough adjustment for anyone. Now you see how he has figured it out. He's very talented and I hope he and Bruce are able to finish their senior seasons strong.”
