Early Lead Slips Away For MSU In Season Opener

The Murray State Women's Soccer team started fast, but couldn't hang on in their 2008 season opener Friday against the Belmont Bruins at Cutchin Field. The season opener turned into a 2-1 loss after the Racers gave up two second half goals that erased a 1-0 lead.

In the 49th minute, MSU was called for a foul and Annie Musacchio scored to tie the game 1-1 on a penalty kick.

MSU might've had the equalizer in the 63 minute, but Sophie Hargreaves' shot from 25 yards straight away hit the cross bar. She also hit the cross bar with another shot in the 80th minute.
Rebekah Clay put a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but was denied the tying goal.
MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman liked the way the game was going in the first half, but saw her squad slow in the second half.
“Overall, we need a better performance,” Acreman said. “I saw improvement in some areas, but we didn't get the result we wanted. We have to play the entire game, not just one half.”
