RACERS RETURN TO RESC: The Murray State Racers get back home to play for the first time since Jan. 24 when they host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in a Thursday 7:30 p.m. tip off at the Regional Special Events Center. The Racers won their last time out Monday at Eastern Illinois 59-53 when they used a decisive 12-1 at the end of the first half to get control of the game. MSU has won five of their last eight. This game marks the beginning of an interesting stretch for the Racers in which they will finish the season by playing five of their last six Ohio Valley Conference games at home where MSU is 20-3 in the last two seasons. Danero Thomas has burst back to the forefront among the OVC's best with a 21.5 points per game average in the last five outings. Monday at EIU he led the Racers in scoring with 16, rebounds with seven, steals with three, and blocks with two.
ROUND ONE: Tennessee Tech won the first meeting of the season with MSU Jan. 17 in Cookeville by a 61-55 count. MSU's downfall was poor shooting when they made only 34 percent from the field, 22 percent from three-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line. The game was tied at 44-44 when the clock dipped inside the eight-minute mark of the second half, and MSU was never able to get the lead. The Racers had two looks from three-point range in the last minute to tie the game but missed both.
SHOOTING FOR 1,000:Tyler Holloway is closing on becoming the 34th member of the Murray State 1,000-Point Club. He enters this game with 996 points. He will soon become the first to to get to 1,000 since Shawn Witherspoon joined the club in 2007. Danero Thomas is well on his way to joining the club. He starts the day with 803 career points.
Holloway is also ranked fourth on MSU's all-time made three-pointer list with 188. Given his recent good shooting, Holloway has a chance to catch third place Justin Burdine before the season is finished. Burdine played for the Racers from 1998-02 and finished with 198. Holloway may even have a shot at catching number two Don Mann who played for the Racers from 1986-89 and has 204. Frank Allen is still the all-time best for MSU with 251 when he played for the Blue & Gold from 1989-93.
