Murray State Athletics and NewWave Communications are pleased to announce the third season of the Racer Television Network and the live broadcast schedule of 11 MSU men's basketball games.
In 2008, the Racer TV Network was a groundbreaking venture that has grown to an audience of more than 100,000 homes on the cable systems of NewWave Communications, MediaCom and Comcast. The games are available to these systems' customers at no additional charge.
“I want to thank NewWave Communications for their continued commitment to Murray State Athletics,” MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “This partnership is very important to the department and our fan base. And again this year, NewWave has stepped up big-time and increased the number of opportunities Murray State fans can enjoy watching Racer basketball. The exposure they provide is invaluable.”
“We at NewWave are very excited about this season's basketball coverage and our partnership with Murray State,” NewWave President Jim Gleason said. “We have built on the original idea and continue to strive to increase the number of games offered, the quality of the telecasts and the audience reached.”
“NewWave has also purchased Hopkinsville's Source 16 and with the success of the Murray State program last year, we expect to have tremendous viewership and are proud to bring the Racers' games to our customers and also of the partnership we have with Mediacom. Comcast was added to the network last season making the games available in the Paducah market.”
The first game on the Racer TV Network schedule is Murray State's exhibition game at the CFSB Center against Freed-Hardeman (Nov. 9).
MSU's game at Mississippi (Nov. 17) will be broadcast from Oxford, Miss.
The Racer TV Network will carry MSU's Ohio Valley Conference opening set of games at Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 2), Morehead State (Dec. 4) and UT Martin (Dec. 21).
MSU's game at Chattanooga (Dec. 11) will also air on the Racer TV Network.
2011 sees the Racer TV Network air MSU's road games at Jacksonville State (Jan. 13), Tennessee Tech (Jan. 15) and the game at future OVC team SIU Edwardsville (Jan. 26).
MSU's games at Austin Peay (Feb. 5) and Southeast Missouri (Feb. 16) will also air on Racer TV Network.
NewWave customers will see the broadcasts on channel 16, while Mediacom subscribers see the MSU games on channel 8. Comcast airs the games on channel 17.
Once again, veteran WCBL announcer Jeff Waters will handle play-by-play duties, while Dave Winder, MSU Assistant AD for Media Relations will provide color.
The games will be produced by Hopkinsville's Source 16.
Adding the Racer TV Network schedule to the previously announced ESPN family of networks schedule by the OVC, means the Racers will appear on live television 15 times in the 2010-11 season with the possibility of three more in considering the Racers' ESPN BracketBusters game at CFSB Center (Feb. 19), and the semifinals and finals of the OVC Tournament (Mar. 4-5). The OVC also has two other wildcard dates (Jan. 20) and (Feb. 3) for games on ESPNU. The pairings for those nights will be announced later.
