After putting together the best season in the history of the program in 2009-10, with a 31-5 record and a win over Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament, the Racers are indeed being noticed in the preseason by a variety of national media. The biggest attention so far has been in the two prominent national polls where MSU has received votes. MSU got 15 votes in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll and are 35th. MSU received four votes in the ESPN-USA Today Coaches Poll and are 43rd. This week ESPN's Andy Katz mentioned one of the games he'd like to see in the exempt tournaments at the beginning of the season is Murray State vs Virginia Tech at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., during Thanksgiving week.
The Racers were also selected fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll (They finished sixth last season), 35th by The Sporting News, 37th by SportsBank.net, 41st by CollegeHoops.net and 47th by CollegeInsider.com.
MSU begins the 2010-11 season on a 19-game home winning streak which is fourth-best in the nation, behind Duke and Kentucky with 20. Kansas has the longest streak at the moment with 59 in a row. During MSU's streak, 13 wins have come against OVC opponents and six have come against non-conference teams including Morgan State and Chattanooga.
